Copyright advocate Mike Weatherley MP supports Brighton & Hove start-up Creative Barcode – innovators of Intellectual Property protection for designers

Brighton & Hove innovative start-up, Creative Barcode, has won-over the support of Mike Weatherley Conservative MP for Hove & Portslade.

Creative Barcode is a digital authentication and Intellectual Property (IP) protection system for designers. It is the first innovation in the intellectual property sector for more than 3 decades, fit for the digital age.

Creative Barcode will enable Mike’s Intellectual Property (IP) interests & his support for the music, gaming, audio visual & film factions of the creative industries to expand directly into the design, innovation and visual communication fields.

Mike Weatherley states “Brighton & Hove is renowned for its creative industries. It is home to hundreds of design, games & digital development firms, who generate innovative works, create jobs and help to build upon the status of the UK as a hot bed of creativity”.

Creative Barcode has delivered an innovative and timely non-complex IP protection system that is legally robust, has the support of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) but avoids complex paperwork & legal fees.

David Cameron PM commissioned a formal review of the UK IP sector in November 2011 (Hargreaves Review). The review involved extensive consultation with creative industries representatives. It is now entering phase 2 which is designed to find solutions fit for the digital age. Solutions will focus on a balance between rights protection for Creators, inspiring innovation and consumer access to creative and cultural works.

Creative Barcode, CEO, Maxine Horn comments “it is fitting that a Brighton based team of designers and innovators developed a non-complex approach to Intellectual Property which could be utilised as part of the UK government solutions and thereby benefit the many 1000’s of UK creators operating in a worldwide market”

Mike Weatherley is a pioneering champion of intellectual property (IP) rights in the music, video, gaming and design sectors of the creative industries. His work in this area includes Rock the House launched in 2011 to raise awareness of the Intellectual Property rights of musicians & dissuade consumers from illegal downloads of pirate music. Julian Lennon has announced his support of the 2012 competition due to take place in April 2012 (www.rockthehouse2012.com). Three additional events, to be held at the House of Commons in 2012 & 2013, will cover film, DJ’s and plays.
